Yesterday's “Living Neckar” day of action in Neckargemünd once again proved how attached the citizens are to their home river. In bright sunshine and temperatures of up to 33 degrees, people flocked to the events, which offered a colorful program for the whole family. Loud rnz.de 40 organizations took part in the festivities, and the city of Heidelberg was also not there due to a few financial hurdles.
One of the main attractions was the duck race on the banks of the Neckar, which was organized by the Round Table 22 Heidelberg e. V. was organized. Hundreds of rubber animals swam around and provided lots of fun, with the proceeds going to social projects in the Rhine-Neckar district. The flea market also offered a great opportunity for bargain hunters, with stalls selling vintage treasures, handmade jewelry, second-hand clothing and toys.
Family-friendly activities and culinary moments of enjoyment
A highlight of the day was the open day at the Neckargemünd Music School, which took place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Here children were able to try out various instruments in introductory courses. The market square was also lively with live music and culinary offerings such as falafel, waffles and bratwurst. The Neckargemünd trade association had perfectly created an atmosphere in which everything revolved around enjoyment and communal celebration.
The newly started city cycling event was officially opened by District Administrator Steffen Dallinger and Mayor Jan Peter Seidel. Accompanied by a student ensemble, the cyclists started an environmentally conscious and sustainable season with a symbolic kick-off ride. The topic of sustainability was present in many places: students informed visitors about climate protection and healthy nutrition.
A festival dedicated to sustainability
Another aspect of the event day was the promotion of sustainable practices. Transport solutions that reduce CO2 emissions were also highlighted, and there were stands with ecological products. Waste reduction through compostable materials and local food supply were also part of a conscious celebration.
Numerous events as part of the “Living Neckar”, which ranged from Edingen-Neckarhausen to Hirschhorn, showed the diversity that this region has to offer. While the Neckarlauer was car-free and attracted many visitors, parking garages were well occupied and access to the event site was also well organized - walking, cycling or using public transport were the recommended alternatives.
