Rottweiler parking chaos: How Tuttlingen can contribute to the solution!

In Rottweil there is currently a discussion about the parking situation in the city. Mr. Sailer from the FDP reports that the parking garage was almost overcrowded on the Sunday when shopping was open, although in the afternoon only around 100 vehicles could be counted. This raises questions about the effectiveness of parking space management, especially since the backlog on Marxstrasse was not caused by the exit from the south center, but by the diversion of city center traffic. Many drivers, including from neighboring districts, had visited locations where there were no parking fees on weekends. This means they don't have to pay a parking permit in Rottweil, which exacerbates the problem.

In order to improve the parking situation, a proposal was put forward to introduce a monthly tariff for employees around the parking garage, similar to what is already practiced in Tuttlingen. There, the tariffs from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. only cost 29 euros, while the complete tariff around the clock is 38 euros. In Rottweil, however, this price is an impressive 70 euros. A clear incentive to make improvements here so as not to scare away commuters or employees.

Focus on parking space management

The discussion about parking addresses a fundamental topic of urban development: parking space management. This concept deals with the organization and control of parking spaces on public streets. It aims to efficiently use the limited parking space resources, reduce traffic congestion and improve the quality of life in cities. The use of such systems is important not only in Rottweil, but also in commercial and municipal parking areas. These include airports, train stations, shopping centers and more.

Parking space management can bring many benefits. It increases revenue, reduces costs, and reduces search traffic and backlogs. Such systems are often implemented using barrier systems, parking meters or modern parking sensors that provide real-time information. While traditional systems often involve high acquisition and maintenance costs, digital solutions can help significantly improve the quality of life by eliminating backlogs.

Current situation in Rottweil

Another challenge will come from October 27, 2025: Some parking spaces in Rottweil will not be available until March 29, 2026 due to snow clearance work. This change could put additional strain on the parking situation. It remains to be seen whether the city will use these opportunities to think outside the box and learn from cities like Tuttlingen to make parking more efficient and user-friendly. After all, citizens not only want to find a parking space, but also want to get to the center without getting stuck in traffic.
