Thousands of packages for children: Christmas in a shoebox starts now!

Next Monday, November 10th, the popular “Christmas in a Shoebox” campaign starts in Amberg and the Amberg-Sulzbach district. Thousands of people have already diligently transformed shoe boxes into lovingly filled gift boxes. The packages are full to the brim with toys, hygiene products, school materials and clothing and are intended to sweeten the festival of love for children in need. The motto of this year’s campaign is: “It’s all about Jesus”. The whole thing is organized by the Christian aid organization Samaritan's Purse.

Families, companies, parishes, schools and daycare centers from the region are warmly invited to take part. Many volunteers have come together to support the campaign. During the drop-off week from November 10th to 17th, there are almost 15 drop-off points in the city and the surrounding area where packages and monetary donations can be dropped off.

Drop-off points for the campaign

Here are some of the drop-off locations where the gift boxes can be handed over:

  • CVJM Amberg e.V., Zeughausstraße 14, Amberg (täglich 9 bis 18 Uhr)
  • Tanzschule Seidl, Philipp-Melanchthon-Straße 20, Amberg
  • Buchhandlung Lilliput, Obere Wehd 7, Altdorf

It is recommended that donations only be taken to registered drop-off points to ensure that the help actually goes where it is needed. The German Central Institute for Social Issues also takes care of checking how the donations are used. Last year, 10.78 euros were invested for each child who received a gift.

An international initiative

The “Christmas in a Shoebox” campaign is part of the international initiative “Operation Christmas Child”, which aims to bring the love of God closer to children in need around the world and pass on the message of Jesus Christ. Since launching in 1993, over 230 million gift boxes have been distributed in more than 170 countries.

Let's work together to put smiles on children's faces. Every box counts and brings a bit of joy to the hearts of the little ones.
