Breitengüßbach's home game debacle: bitter defeat against Aschaffenburg!

On Saturday evening, October 28th, 2025, TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach met the Aschaffenburg Baskets in the Hans-Jung-Halle. The game, which started promisingly, ended with a bitter defeat for the hosts: they had to admit defeat 61:64. This defeat was also the first of the current season for head coach Mark Völkl's team, who had to do without Marlon Stephan and Jonas Klaus due to injuries. The pressure was high and so were the expectations. So far, Breitengüßbach had made positive headlines with a derby win against TTL Basketball Bamberg and another success against Neustadt, but now the focus on defense cost them valuable points.

The first few minutes of the encounter were extremely even, and after four minutes of play the score was 7:6 for Breitengüßbach. But the Aschaffenburg Baskets showed fighting spirit and pulled away to 9:13. After a short back and forth, Breitengüßbach was able to equalize at 15:15, but ultimately had to go into the quarter break trailing by 19:21. In the second quarter, the home team stood up their defense and went on a strong 10-0 run that gave them a 29-21 lead. The halftime score of 37:32 seemed promising, but the wind changed as the game progressed.

Exciting gameplay and close decisions

The game remained competitive in the third period, but the weak three-point rate of only 15% (3/20) became noticeable. Aschaffenburg took advantage of the opportunity to reduce the deficit to 43:42 before Breitengüßbach was able to extend the lead to 50:46. The final section was characterized by intense defense and the players' nerves were visibly tense. In the 33rd minute it was only 53:52 for Breitengüßbach. However, a later goal from Jebens and Trummeter put the hosts in the lead to 59:54 by the 37th minute.

But luck wasn't on TSV's side. Aschaffenburg equalized to 61:61 with a three-point throw from Haller and made the final decision 61:64 with the last throw, which came with the final siren. This means that Breitengüßbach remains in second place in the table, level on points with Leipzig, but they now have to accept a one-win gap to the table leaders from Weimar.

Statistics and outlook

The game results of TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach were mainly influenced by Trummeter (12 points), Jebens (10 points, 1 three-pointer) and Lorber (10 points, 2 three-pointers). But the other players also showed commitment, albeit with varying success. The Aschaffenburg Baskets, on the other hand, are now in second to last place with a record of one win and four defeats. Their win this season came on the first matchday against Bamberg, followed by narrow defeats against Weimar, Veitshöchheim and Leipzig.

With this defeat, it is to be hoped that the Breitengüßbach players will learn from this experience and get back on the road to success in the coming games. The coming week will be crucial to regroup and sharpen focus so that the team can score again in the next game.
