New delights in Augsburg: Balkan cuisine and food trucks are conquering the city!
A lot is happening in the culinary sector in Augsburg! Two exciting restaurants have recently opened their doors and offer a wide range of culinary delights. The Restaurant at Tiffany's is a new highlight in the Göggingen district, which has found its home in the premises of the former Café Schweiger, which has been an integral part of the city since 1951. The landladies, a mother-daughter dynasty, pamper guests with a selection of Serbian-Croatian delicacies and classic Bavarian specialties. The menu ranges from Allgäuer Schnitzel to Schwabentopf and offers something for every taste. The furnishings with historical engravings showing Augsburg's squares create a homely atmosphere. The restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the hot kitchen operating from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday is a day of rest, so be careful!
Another dining experience opened its doors on July 4th: The Post Bar & Grill, the newest establishment from the operators of the popular Irish pub Flannigan’s Post. It is located directly at the shooting range at Wittelsbacher Park and serves a delicious mix of Texan and Bavarian cuisine. Here guests can expect delicacies such as onion rings, fried pickles, chicken wings, schnitzel, cheese spaetzle and fried chicken. The rustic and unconventional furnishings, peppered with deer antlers and old cart wheels, create a unique atmosphere. Opening times are Tuesday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Balkan cuisine on the street
Balkan cuisine doesn't just find its place in the new restaurants; A food truck also enriches Augsburg's culinary offerings. The Balkan Kitchen, run by Dario and Tobi, offers a special street food experience in the city center. The two owners have made it their mission to refine classic street food dishes with authentic recipes from the Balkan region. Popular menu items include the popular Cevapcici burgers and potatoes with homemade dip and ajvar. Quality is very important to them: the ingredients come from regional butchers, bakers and greengrocers. Although street food markets are canceled due to the Corona situation, the food truck is present on the Gaswerk site at August-Wessels-Straße 30 from Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also offers telephone pre-orders so that the delicacies can be easily prepared to take away.
A look into the future
But not everything is clear in Augsburg's gastronomic landscape: the possible opening of the fast food chain Crusty Slices is causing confusion. A TikTok post suggested that a new location was planned in Augsburg, but was removed shortly afterwards. The company remained silent in response to inquiries, leaving many curious customers guessing. For those who love croissants, both sweet and savory, the wait remains exciting.
Another development in the city is the closure of the North Sea branch at the Augsburg city market, which is now focused on the location in the City-Galerie. It remains to be seen how Augsburg's culinary landscape will develop, but one thing is certain: the city has many surprises in store!
