Bamberg clears up: 400 citizens make their contribution to environmental protection!
The city of Bamberg experienced a lively hustle and bustle on October 4, 2025, when Mayor Jonas Glüsenkamp, together with around 400 committed citizens, including many children from the St. Gisela kindergarten, became active in collecting garbage. This action was found in the context of the World Cleanup Day Instead and impressively illustrated the commitment of the community for a clean environment.
Equipped with warning vests, gloves and gripping tongs, the little helpers moved and showed great enthusiasm for their project. A special highlight was the moment when a girl mayor Glüsenkamp proudly presented her filled bucket with finds such as chip bags, an iced tea and glass. The mayor took this opportunity to draw attention to the dangers of glass on the playground and to promote responsibility in dealing with nature.
Together for the environment
The participation in the campaign was impressive: two kindergartens, four schools and children from the Baskidhall were also involved and ensured that garbage was collected in many places. In green areas and on paths, many unpleasant surprises were found, such as bulky waste, monitors, used grills and even an old vehicle license plate. In the past few years the World Cleanup Day A large network is formed and garbage collection campaigns are now coordinated in over 190 countries.
The waste collected found their destiny at seven central collection points in Bamberg. While the water guard was active on the "Bathroom Wall", the helpers found only two bicycle rims and a minimal waste. Overall, the garbage collected filled the loading area of a small truck, which shows the enormous amount of waste that was compiled during the action.
Global commitment to clean environment
The World Cleanup Day is not just a local event, but an important UN campaign day that has done great things in 2025 and in previous years. With over 70 million participants from more than 190 countries, the day is celebrated on September 20 and symbolizes the global engagement for a garbage -free future. The initiative aims to strengthen the awareness of the challenges of pollution and encourages individuals to actively participate in eliminating waste.
Looking back at the origins of this worldwide important campaign, it started in Estonia with 50,000 participants in 2008. In the past five years, over 70 million people have already participated in the actions. Even in crisis areas such as Afghanistan and Ukraine, people are committed to their environment despite adverse circumstances. The World Cleanup Day This not only promotes environmental protection, but also the feeling of togetherness and the resilience of the communities.
The campaign in Bamberg shows how important it is that each of us makes their part to clean. We are sure to be on the right track when it comes to gaining even more people for environmental protection in the future.
