During the past summer holidays, children from Bamberg and the surrounding area were once again able to enjoy a wealth of activities. A total of 1,616 places were booked and numerous courses were quickly booked out. Particularly noteworthy: 38 courses were fully available within just a few minutes.

The popularity of the program is also reflected in the participant structure. At 53% girls and 47% boys, interest among girls was actually slightly higher. In addition, 72% of the children were under 10 years old, which underlines the early enthusiasm for such offers. Among the 59 regional providers who were allowed to hold the events, there were interesting activities such as Quidditch, soldering workshops and ceramic painting, but also dance and theater workshops as well as outdoor activities for the adventurous children.

Innovative offers and digital solutions

To make it easier to book events, a new booking portal called “Ferienportal Bamberg” was introduced. This measure has proven successful because the feedback from users has been consistently positive. In addition, a digital holiday pass was offered for 6 euros, which gave participating families numerous discounts and free access to over 100 attractions. The digital solution, which can be accessed via a QR code in an app or as a PDF, was very well received - a total of 2,200 of these passes were sold.

The digital pass's offerings included attractive leisure options such as free entry to the stadium swimming pool, Geiselwind leisure land, climbing forests and wildlife parks. This shows that the city of Bamberg strives to offer children and young people varied and affordable leisure opportunities. A children's and youth flea market on the Lower Bridge, which took place from April to October 2025, was also very popular. With 361 young sellers aged 7 to 17, over 70% of the stands at the flea market were fully booked.

A look into the future

The planned surveys among the participants are intended to help improve the offers even more specifically and to respond to the wishes of children and young people. This suggests that the city of Bamberg is focusing on long-term and future-oriented development of child and youth work.

The extensive program and the imaginative approach show that municipal youth work in Bamberg is really active and committed. From creative workshops to digital offerings – young people are offered a wide range of support and leisure activities here.
