Bayern women experience debacle: 1:7 against Barcelona!

A disastrous start for FC Bayern Women in the UEFA Champions League: On October 8, 2025, they suffered a painful 7-1 defeat against FC Barcelona at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. In front of 4,409 spectators, the Munich team was unable to even begin to put last year's finalists in trouble. The game was a clear affair from the start for the Catalans, who put pressure on from the first minute.

The goalscorers for Barcelona came from a veritable barrage of attacks. Alexia Putellas scored the first goal in the 3rd minute, followed by two goals from Polish striker Ewa Pajor in the 12th and 56th minutes. Esmee Brugts (27th minute) and Salma Paralluelo (45th + 1 minute) also entered the list of goal scorers. The only bright spot for Bayern was Klara Bühl, who scored the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to close the gap.

Difficult conditions for the Bayern women

Bayern couldn't get back into the game after falling behind early on. Klara Bühl, who was courted by Barcelona last season, gave the team an early goal with an unfortunate pass. These defensive insecurities led to Bayern conceding four goals in the first half. Luck wasn't on Munich's side either: Schüller's goal was disallowed due to offside.

The situation got worse when Carolin Simon was injured during the game and had to leave the field in tears. Coach Pernille Hader tried to motivate his players until the end, but the team had great difficulty fending off the attacks of the hard-working Barça players. Before the game, José Barcala, the coach of Bayern Women, had set a goal of winning the Champions League - after this defeat, that seems almost unimaginable.

This defeat is the highest in the entire Champions League history for Bayern Women and leaves many questions unanswered. In the coming phase, the players will have to pull themselves together even more to avoid such painful games. The next challenge is already waiting, and the team now needs strong solidarity in order to learn from this bitter slap and come back stronger.
