A new wind in Traunstein: Andreas Danzer becomes district administrator!

In the picturesque Traunstein district, the electoral system proved itself once again on July 14, 2025: In an exciting runoff election between Andreas Danzer from the Free Voters and the CSU candidate Martin Lackner, the voters supported Danzer and thus a new course. The new district administrator received 54.6% of the valid votes, which corresponds to 24,571 votes. His challenger Lackner followed with 45.4% or 20,408 votes. This decision brings a breath of fresh air into the official business of the district, which will now be led under Danzer in the future, after the previous district administrator Siegfried Sebastian Walch (CSU) was elected to the Bundestag and held office from 2014 to 2026 bayerische-staatszeitung.de reported.

One of the most remarkable details of the election was the participation of citizens in the ballot. Of around 145,000 eligible voters, turnout was only 31.3%. But despite the low turnout, interest in the community was visible, and with their vote the citizens demonstrated that they are committed to change. Danzer was unable to prevail in the first round of voting, only receiving 20.1% of the vote, while Lackner got 32.9% - an absolute majority was hardly achievable due to the numerous candidates in the first round, explains traunstein.com.

Taking office and first steps

The official confirmation of the election results is imminent. The District Election Committee will announce the results on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 9:00 a.m., a meeting that is open to the public for all interested parties. The new district administrator, Andreas Danzer, will officially take office on July 16, 2025 and will be sworn in at the next district council meeting on Friday, July 18, 2025. This ceremony is eagerly awaited, as Danzer has already proven himself to be an accomplished and adaptable candidate in the election.

In addition to the election of district administrators, those elected for municipal and city councils are also determined in similar elections in Bavaria, which constantly reshapes the political landscape, as can be read on statistics.bayern.de. The term of office for the mandates is generally six years, which ensures continuity in administration.

The elections in the district office are always a reflection of social changes and show that citizens are actively casting their votes. The new district administrator now has the task of further developing the Traunstein district with a fresh approach and perhaps also new projects. The coming weeks will show what priorities Andreas Danzer will set.
