Tragic traffic accident on B16: 68-year-old dies, several injured!

A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning on the B16 near Donauwörth in the Donau-Ries district. A 68-year-old man was killed in the multi-vehicle collision, while two women aged 20 and 44 were seriously injured. The two women were driving towards Rain when the serious accident occurred with the 68-year-old's oncoming car, which was heading towards Donauwörth. It is still unclear how this collision occurred, so the police are now investigating the circumstances in more detail. As donaukurier.de reports, an expert was appointed to the scene to clarify the cause of the accident.

The man suffered serious injuries in the accident and died at the scene. The 44-year-old driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by the fire department. She was seriously injured and taken to the clinic in Ingolstadt by rescue helicopter, while her 38-year-old passenger was also seriously injured and transported to the Donau-Ries Clinic. The 20-year-old driver only suffered moderate injuries and was subsequently treated. The exact identity of the deceased man was only clarified after some delay, and the relatives were informed. According to donau-ries-aktuell.de there were no uninvolved witnesses who could confirm how the accident happened.

Extensive rescue measures

The situation at the scene of the accident was dramatic: around 50 emergency services from the fire departments from Donauwörth, Riedlingen and Donaumünster were on duty. The rescue service and an emergency doctor team of four people were also ready to help the injured. The B16 remained completely closed in both directions for around four hours, causing significant traffic delays, particularly in the Donauwörth urban area. The fire brigade and police organized diversions, but they were temporarily overloaded, which made the situation even worse.

The police have opened criminal proceedings for negligent homicide against the person who may be responsible. The question is currently being discussed as to whether the driver of the vehicle may have been driving faster than permitted (maximum 60 km/h). Police are conducting regular speed checks at the scene of the accident and the investigation is now focusing on the exact causes of the accident. The material damage to the vehicles is estimated at around 7,000 euros.

Witnesses to the accident who can provide valuable information are asked to contact the Donauwörth police station on 0906/706670.
