Practical help for young families: Ebersberger Wellcome” unrecognized!

At a time when new parents are facing numerous challenges, the “Wellcome” project in the Ebersberg district is enjoying growing attention. As the South German newspaper reports, the program offers practical support for young families in the first year after birth. The main focus is on making the new phase of life less stressful and more loving.

Volunteer helpers, also affectionately known as “Wellcome angels”, step in when it comes to managing everyday life with a newborn. For example, they help with taking the baby for a walk, look after siblings or help with household chores. Coordinator Franziska Brock reports that there are many committed volunteers, but demand from families still falls short of expectations. Reasons for this could be ignorance of the offer or the feeling of having to accept help, which many people find embarrassing.

Diverse support for new parents

Wellcome's concept is characterized not only by its flexible help, but also by its independence from social background, income or family constellation. The support is offered once or twice a week and is individually tailored to the needs of the families. “The goal is to create a supportive environment so parents can focus on their baby,” Brock said.

The challenges for parents are diverse. Many suffer from a feeling of isolation, especially when important networks are missing. Stress in everyday life and the risk of postnatal problems such as “baby blues” or postpartum depression are other aspects that push many people to their limits. This is where the Wellcome project comes in and not only offers practical help, but also an open ear for concerns and questions.

Easy access and cost

Interested parents can contact coordinator Brock quickly and easily - a phone call and a short conversation to clarify their needs are all it takes. If it turns out that support is desired, suitable volunteers will be found. The whole thing is accompanied by a one-off placement fee of 10 euros and a prior fee of 5 euros per hour for on-site deployment times. No parent should hesitate to take advantage of the offers!

Wellcome's offer is part of the **Early Help** program, which is aimed at families with children up to three years old. This support is often referred to as family sponsorship and is usually free of charge. Volunteers help with everyday tasks, from organizing leisure activities to helping with homework to accompanying you to doctor's appointments. The goal always remains to take a little burden off the shoulders of the young parents and make their lives easier. More information can be found on the Wellcome homepage and on the Early Help page.

A practical example: Silvia Ruopp, a new volunteer who joined Wellcome in 2025, is already waiting for her first assignment and is frustrated by the low use of the offer. Their motivation is reflected in many of the volunteers who have a knack for supporting young families and are willing to help.

Overall, the “Wellcome” project offers a valuable resource for many families in the Ebersberg district. Especially at a time when parenting is often characterized by stress and uncertainty, a little support from outside could make all the difference.
