Organ summer in Eichstätter Cathedral: music for the soul begins!
A highlight for music lovers in Eichstätt is coming up: The annual “Organ Summer” in the High Cathedral in Eichstätt starts on July 19th and promises an impressive musical experience. The series of events includes a variety of organ concerts every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. every week until October 4th, performed by twelve talented musicians from home and abroad. Admission is free, but donations to support this cultural series are always welcome. The audience can look forward to festive, meditative and virtuoso organ music that will be heard in one of the city's most impressive buildings, the cathedral organ with its around 5,000 pipes and 68 registers.
The first concerts have already been fixed: Philipp Pelster from Salzburg (Austria) will kick off on July 19th, followed by Pavel Šmolík from Příbram (Czech Republic) on July 26th and other well-known organists such as Franz Hauk from Ingolstadt and Martin Bernreuther from Eichstätt. The concerts offer an exciting journey through music history, from baroque to romantic organ music. Improvisations will often enrich the performances and captivate the audience.
Cultural diversity to take with you
Parallel to the organ summer, a series of events is also taking place in the Guardian Angel Church in Eichstätt, which began on July 15th and runs until August 5th. These concerts, also on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., are characterized by a similar character: the music not only serves as entertainment, but also as an opportunity for meditation in the sacred ambience of a baroque church interior. Organized by the Eichstätter Dommusik under the direction of cathedral organist Martin Bernreuther, this series will continue as “Organ Autumn” from September 16th to October 7th.
The Guardian Angel Church's program includes, among others, talented organists such as Melanie Jäger-Waldau from Überlingen and Frank Dillmann from Nuremberg. Admission here is free and donations are welcome.
A part of a large network
The events in Eichstätt are part of the “German Organ Route”, a nationwide cultural network that promotes organ culture in Germany and connects artists, scientists and cultural workers. The initiative, which has its origins in Waldkirch, demonstrates the desire to preserve and promote the organ – considered the “queen of instruments” – and its important role in the cultural and spiritual landscape of Europe. The “German Organ Street” encourages those interested to become members, sponsors or make donations in order to support the valuable organ culture.
There is a lot to discover in Eichstätt! The concerts not only promise musical highlights, but also an excellent opportunity to familiarize yourself with the deep tradition of organ music. Whether passionate music lovers or curious visitors to the city, everyone will find their place here.
