Erdinger Weißbräu helps the Grill family: therapy dog for Damien!

The private brewery ERDINGER Weißbräu once again shows its commitment to social projects. This time the brewery used the donations from its free beer at the autumn festival to help the Grill family financially. The aim of the support is to purchase a therapy dog for her son Damien, who has suffered from generalized tonic-clonic epilepsy since January 2025. Samerberger News reports that the therapy dog is not only intended to provide the boy with emotional support, but can also provide early warning of seizures.

The diagnosis brought significant challenges for the Grill family. Epilepsy can have a significant impact on everyday life, and an assistance dog could provide important relief. However, the purchase costs for such a dog amount to over 31,000 euros - a sum that the family cannot afford on their own. Therefore, an active appeal for donations invites people to support the family. When the check was handed over in the brewery's visitor center, members of the company management and the Grill family were also present, who warmly thanked them for their valuable help.

Assistance dogs as lifesavers

The importance of assistance dogs is often underestimated, but they can be a real lifesaver for those affected like Damien. Dogs that are specially trained to meet the needs of people with neurological diseases not only offer emotional support, but also practical help in everyday life. This applies not only to epilepsy, but also to rarer sleeping disorders such as narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia (IHS), which are often not taken seriously and lead to social isolation. Arthanis Foundation points out that the symptoms of these diseases, such as sudden attacks of falling asleep or muscle relaxation, represent a high risk factor in everyday life.

An assistance dog is therefore trained individually for the patient in order to warn them of dangerous situations. The dog is trained in close cooperation with the owner and includes a variety of behaviors that have a preventive effect and thus help avoid accidents. This help means more autonomy and security in everyday life for those affected - a benefit for the quality of life.

The ERDINGER Brewery has been supporting social projects and organizations for years, including Fischer’s Charitable Foundation and the Erding Lions Club. Your current donation underlines how important it is to care for people in need and help them lead self-determined lives. Working with the Grill family not only represents financial support, but also a strong network of people who work together for the well-being of others.
