EV Füssen loses a thrilling test match against Erding in a penalty shootout

In the second test match of the season, EV Füssen suffered a narrow defeat against the newly promoted team from Erding. The game took place on home ice and ended 2:3 in the penalty shootout (1:1, 0:1, 1:0, 0:1). Despite the defeat, both teams showed promising approaches, even though preparation is still in full swing.

The Füssen team was able to take the lead through Felix Linden in the 9th minute. A strong assist came from Naumann and the licensed striker Florian Reinwald. But just eight minutes later, Erding equalized through Grady Hobbs, who was supported by Matheson and Trattner. Reinwald had a great chance for Füssen shortly after the equalizer, but failed with a solo effort.

The course of the game

In the middle third, the EVF came under increasing pressure and had to endure several penalty times. In the 37th minute, Erding took advantage of the opportunity and took the lead 2-1 through Erik Modlmayr. The assist came from Ostwald and Hobbs. But the Füssen team found their way back into the game: In the 43rd minute, Reinwald equalized to 2-2 after a nice pass from Stransky. In the final minute, Füssen could have scored the winning goal, but the chance remained unused.

In extra time, which is not played in all leagues and did not lead to a decision in this game, Julian Straub scored, but the goal was disallowed. A typical overtime dilemma in which a winner is usually determined, but in this case the teams did not find resolution after regular time. In ice hockey, a draw is often followed by a penalty shootout, as was the case here, to determine the winner after regular playing time and overtime failed to produce a clear lead.

Penalty shootouts and point distribution

In the decisive penalty shootout, only Thomas Brandl was able to score for Erding, while the Füssen team failed to hit the goal in three attempts. In international leagues, such as the NHL, there are different points systems. While the winner receives three points in regular time, in the event of a victory in the penalty shootout there are still two points for the winner and one for the loser. These regulations have a major influence on table placement, promotion and relegation and qualification for the playoffs, which play a particularly important role in ice hockey.

A total of 631 spectators were able to witness the exciting encounter, which, despite the somewhat uneven course, made it clear that the EVF is on a promising path. With an improved performance in the coming games and the return of the contingent strikers, the first victory may soon be celebrated.

As was already evident in the game, ice hockey is a dynamic sport that surprises in exciting ways with every new game and captivates the spectators. A real evening full of emotions for everyone involved!
