Freyung celebrates the opening of the natural pool – a water paradise for families!

There is reason to be happy in Freyung: the new natural swimming pool was ceremoniously opened on Friday afternoon. The first bather, eight-year-old Andreas Binder, tested both slides and created a happy atmosphere at the start of this innovative project. In predominantly sunny weather, although small droplets fell during the entry in the Golden Book, the pool was inaugurated with an impressive speech by Mayor Olaf Heinrich. He praised the outstanding work of the companies involved in the construction, who completed the conversion from a normal outdoor pool to a modern natural pool in just two years.

The new natural pool has undergone a considerable investment with a total cost of around 2.95 million euros. Funding sources such as the ERDF provided 1.6 million euros and local funding of around 300,000 euros from Leader. These financial supports are essential to providing citizens with an environmentally friendly swimming experience that does not require chlorine and instead relies on natural water filtering through plants.

Nature friendly features

As the websites also report, the natural pool is a prime example of future bathing concepts: It uses solar thermal energy to heat the water and draws its water from its own sources. The design stipulated that the bathroom was designed as an “EnergyPlusBad”, which means that the operating costs are permanently affordable. These are significantly below those of conventional swimming pools. MdL Stefan Ebner described the natural pool as another beacon for the city, while deputy district administrator Helga Weinberger emphasized the importance of such oases for the citizens' quality of life.

The attractiveness of the new pool is underlined by the opportunity to learn to swim safely. Claus Schmitt, who was also on site, emphasized this aspect and the importance of family-friendliness in the design of the natural pool. The pool thus responds to the wish of many people who prefer chlorine-free bathing, especially families with children. This diversity and the lived concept of the natural pools, which also includes a playful watercourse and natural landscape elements, create a holistic recreational experience for everyone.

Inviting opening ceremony

To celebrate the new pool, a colorful program was announced for Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, guests can even enter free of charge due to an unfavorable weather forecast, while entry on Sunday is 2.50 euros, although children under 16 stay free. With a celebratory blessing, the wish was expressed that the bathers would spend carefree hours in the new natural pool.

With these measures, the Freyung natural pool is positioning itself not only as bathing fun, but also as an ecological showcase project that fits harmoniously into the landscape. It is expected that the pool will not only serve as a local recreational area, but will also make a significant contribution to promoting health and the common good in Freyung. The enthusiasm is clearly noticeable and it is already clear today: the new natural pool has the potential to become a popular meeting place for young and old.

Further information about the leisure activities in the natural pool can be found on the official website of the city of Freyung Freyung.de as well as on PNP and DGFNB.
