Allgäu clinics join forces: cooperation for the best patient care!
The healthcare landscape in the Allgäu has taken an important step forward: On October 8, 2025, the Allgäu Clinic Association (KVA) and the Ostallgäu-Kaufbeuren Clinics (KOK) signed a cooperation agreement that enables strategic collaboration at nine locations. This partnership is intended not only to improve medical care in the region, but also to strengthen the independence of both associations. KVA managing director Andreas Ruland made it clear that this is not a merger, but rather a meaningful collaboration in various areas.
In view of the current challenges, such as the nationwide hospital reform and the financial pressure caused by inflation, this step is particularly important. The aim is to ensure that patients from the region are treated locally if possible - if this is medically justifiable. The focus is on the core medical areas, purchasing, laundry supply, administration and training. The cooperation should be systematically further developed and placed on an open-ended basis, which will benefit both sides, as kma-online.de emphasizes.
Important actors and goals of the cooperation
“We have a good handle on the future of our healthcare facilities,” said KVA supervisory board chairman Hans-Joachim Weirather. He and KOK Board Chairwoman Maria Rita Zinnecker emphasize that it is of the utmost importance to maintain patient care in the Allgäu at a high level. The importance of such a partnership becomes particularly clear in view of the large number of patients - over 210,000 annually at the KVA and around 120,000 at the KOK.
- KVA verfügt über mehr als 1.100 Betten.
- KOK hat 654 Planbetten.
The KVA is sponsored by the city of Kempten and the districts of Oberallgäu and Unterallgäu, while KOK is supported by the city of Kaufbeuren and the district of Ostallgäu. The collaboration with the Sana Clinics has been running since 2022, which creates a solid basis for the cooperation agreement that has now been entered into. According to kliniken-oal-kf.de, health care in the Allgäu will be sustainably secured and further developed through this partnership.
Cebit, we are looking forward to an exciting time with a lot of potential for both hospital networks. Mayor Thomas Kiechle from Kempten and his colleague Stefan Bosse from Kaufbeuren confirm the great importance of this cooperation for the region. The responsibility for high-quality medical care close to home is particularly emphasized by the district administrator of the Ostallgäu, Maria Rita Zinnecker, and in doing so she shows her commitment to first-class care for all Allgäu residents.
