Iron Wedding in Kaufbeuren: 65 years of love and community!
The life's work of long-time married couples is currently being honored in Kaufbeuren, as several couples are celebrating their iron wedding anniversary, which provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate. This also applies to Renate and Peter Schmiele, who celebrated their 65th marriage anniversary at the beginning of October. Together with 16 other couples who also celebrate this important festival, they are in the public eye. City councilor Julia von Stillfried brought them the city's congratulations on behalf of Mayor Stefan Bosse, and the couple beamed with joy at the appreciation for their long time together.
Renate and Peter Schmiele, originally from the Dresden area, have found a new home in Kaufbeuren. 32 years ago, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, they moved in with their daughter, who had already moved to the city. “We always did everything together!” the two reveal when it comes to the secret of their long marriage. Their family is very important to them and they are proud of two children, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom live nearby and care for them.
Special stories from the city
But the Schmiele are not the only ones celebrating their wedding anniversary in Kaufbeuren. Rita and Ludwig Stadler can also look back on 65 years of marriage. Their wedding took place on February 12, 1960, and city councilor Gertrud Gellings insisted on congratulating the couple personally. Particularly noteworthy is the story of how Rita accidentally ordered too much sausage in 1999 - 1,100 kilograms instead of 110 for a party. But instead of sinking into panic, she and friends organized the sale of the surplus sausage, which even caused a stir as far away as Ulm.
The couple's commitment to the city is evident. They were not only active in the local history and dance festival association, but also helped set up the Kaufbeuren Christmas trail and ensured that the town's windows were colorfully decorated. Gellings also acknowledged this in her speech and emphasized the importance of these active citizens.
A look at the current statistics
These couples show how valuable time together is - and that marriage is not just a number, but a lifelong challenge that is worth it. Their example encourages us to stick with our partnership even in challenging times and to create beautiful memories together.
So it remains to be hoped that, despite falling numbers, more couples will have the opportunity to celebrate these important days and keep their love alive in all its different facets.
