Mysterious mayoral candidates: CSU and SPD keep the tension high!

In the last few days the political landscape in Steinwiesen has become exciting. On July 9, 2025, the CSU Steinwiesen surveyed its members about their candidacy for mayor, and the result speaks for itself. Of the 88 members, 58 took part in the survey, which corresponds to a participation rate of around 66 percent. Jürgen Eckert, the chairman of the Nuremberg CSU local branch, described this value as very encouraging; the target of 50 percent was clearly exceeded. But who will ultimately be the candidate in the race? There is still a lack of clarity on this, as NP-Coburg reports.

The situation is similar with the SPD, which is still holding back regarding its candidate. However, a promising name is rumored to be making the rounds. The local elections are just around the corner and will take place in March 2026, which means time is running out for a clear announcement.

CSU brings candidates into play

CSU reported.

Plans include, among other things, upgrading the infrastructure as well as support for clubs and the organization of festivals. A detailed election program is being developed with the motto “Feldkirchen 2026 – 2032: Shaping the future together”. Before winter, the CSU would like to present a strong team of committed local council candidates.

A look at the local elections

South Germans reports that the CSU under Prime Minister Markus Söder is facing a potential sixth electoral defeat since 2018. This could represent an opportunity for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) to win 20 percent of the mandates in city and local councils as well as in district councils. Under certain circumstances they could even provide district administrators and mayors.
