In Ebern, where people previously looked proudly at the automotive supplier Valeo, a dark phase is on the horizon. The company plans to cut a total of 134 jobs, which is all the more serious since it is Ebern's largest company. To be more precise, these job cuts primarily affect the areas of research and development, where over 109 jobs will be eliminated. Production-supporting functions are not spared either; 25 positions are affected here. The shock is deep, especially when you consider that 280 employees lost their jobs at Valeo just last year. The surrounding reactions show that the effects of the current job cuts are perceived as more serious. This situation also brought IG Metall to the fore, which expressed its disappointment with the developments and the grievances at the site.
But worrying changes are not only evident in Ebern. The company's other locations in Franconia are also threatened with closure. According to infranken.de, more than 600 jobs are to be cut. In Bad Neustadt an der Saale the location, where 183 employees are currently employed, will be completely closed. It is already clear that the restructuring is primarily due to the difficult industry situation and high international competition. In order to better meet the challenges, research and development work should be concentrated at fewer but larger locations, especially in Erlangen.
Details about the affected locations
The following locations are particularly hard hit by the cuts:
- Ebern: Hier werden insgesamt 134 Arbeitsplätze abgebaut, von denen 37 nach Erlangen verlegt werden. Bereits 250 Stellen sind seit 2024 gestrichen worden.
- Bad Neustadt: Die Schließung bringt den Verlust von 143 Arbeitsplätzen mit sich. 40 Stellen werden nach Erlangen verlegt.
- Erlangen: Der Standort wird um 158 Stellen im Bereich Forschung und Entwicklung reduziert, obwohl gleichzeitig Arbeitsplätze aus anderen Standorten verlegt werden.
- Bad Rodach: Bis Ende 2028 sollen 230 Stellen entfallen, was sich auf die Produktion und Forschung sowie unterstützende Funktionen verteilt.
IG Metall has already initiated negotiations with the social partners. However, so far there are no concrete figures or time frames for the implementation of these drastic measures. The uncertainty and pressure on the affected employees is growing by the hour.
The coming weeks will show how the situation will develop for the affected jobs and what further changes the automotive supplier Valeo will have to make. For many employees in the region, this represents an enormous challenge that could have not only professional but also personal consequences. The state of affairs shows that the company is not only in a crisis, but is also heading for uncertain times.
