Ryanair is celebrating a comeback on Lake Constance: new flights to Mallorca and Alicante!
The world of travel on Lake Constance is getting exciting: Ryanair is planning to resume its flights from Friedrichshafen after a long break of 15 years. Fortunately, from the end of March 2026, passengers will have three weekly connections to Palma de Mallorca and two flights to Alicante. That's what she reports Swabian.
Along with this return, Ryanair is reducing its offering at more expensive German airports. Memmingen Airport, where 31 Ryanair aircraft are currently stationed, will not only lose two connections to Riga and Tel Aviv in the next few months, but also 229,000 seats. From November 30th, traffic there will be noticeably less, as the difficult location costs, coupled with high tax burdens, are driving Ryanair to take this step. The average ticket price of 46 euros is offset by high taxes and fees of around 50 to 60 euros per passenger, which makes air traffic in this country a real balancing act.
Competitive pressure and flight prices
The air traffic tax in Germany is currently 15.53 euros per passenger, plus various fees for air traffic control and security clearance. Ryanair has taken a clear position and is calling for these costs to be reduced in order to double the number of passengers and station more aircraft in Germany. Airport boss Detlef Schäfer from Friedrichshafen is optimistic and would like to have discussions with Ryanair about future connections as soon as possible. Ryanair emphasizes that these new flight routes are not intended to put Memmingen under further pressure, but are intended to provide long-term cost security.
However, the Ministry of Transport has made it clear that there are no options for reducing aviation tax in the 2026 federal budget. However, a reduction could be in prospect for 2027. So it remains to be seen how the situation in the aviation industry will develop.
