Christmas magic in Memmingen: Christkindlesmarkt opens on November 28th!

The magic of the pre-Christmas season is in the air again and the Allgäu is preparing for its traditional Christmas markets. The popular one in Memmingen Memmingen Christmas market opened on November 28, 2025 and will attract visitors until December 21, 2025. Around 30 stands await you under the festive lights of the market square, which form the heart of the event.

The opening on November 28th will take place at 5:30 p.m. by Mayor Jan Rothenbacher and the Christ child. Fortunately, entry prices are free, meaning everyone can enjoy the pre-Christmas spirit without breaking the bank. Opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 9 p.m. and Sunday until 8 p.m. On opening day there are even special opening hours from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Diverse offerings and special attractions

The market program has a lot to offer. In addition to atmospheric Christmas cookies, there will also be performances by singing and brass groups. The children are particularly looking forward to St. Nicholas, who distributes gifts to the children, and the magical stories that the Christ child reads. Another highlight is the Punch and Judy show for the little ones and the live nativity scene with real sheep, which invites you to reflect.

But not only the program on offer, the setting also has a lot to offer. Some voices from online reviews are critical of the small size of the market compared to others, such as the market in Ulm with its 130 stalls. They criticize the high proportion of food stalls, which is 90 percent, as well as the lack of variety in terms of handicrafts and the contemplative atmosphere. Nevertheless, the general tenor is pleasantly positive, especially with regard to the food on offer and the beautiful surroundings.

Accessibility and park-friendly options

The journey to Memmingen is straightforward. The train station is only about a ten-minute walk away, and the market is also easy to reach by car. It takes around 25 minutes from Kempten via the A7 and around 35 minutes from Ulm. For travelers arriving by car, parking is available in the “Krautstrasse” car park - parking here costs just €0.70 per 30 minutes, with a maximum price of €5.00 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. There is a special offer on the four Saturdays in Advent: local public transport is free here.

There is much more to discover in Memmingen itself. Sights such as the old town, the city walls and the impressive town hall invite you to make sensible use of the time until the market opens. City tours and special night watchman tours also offer interesting insights into the history of the city.

The Christmas market in Memmingen is part of the diverse offering in the Allgäu. Other Christmas markets in the region that are worth visiting are also presented. These vary from smaller, one-day markets to larger events that last almost the entire Advent period. This is how the popular one goes Kempten Christmas market, the largest and oldest of its kind, will also be launching soon.
