Holiday fun for Ukrainian children: Irschenberg becomes a second home!

A very special project for Ukrainian children has recently been implemented in the Caritas Children's Village Irschenberg. Here they should get a break from the difficult everyday life in Ukraine for a few weeks. State Parliament President Ilse Aigner, who launched the project after her own trip to Ukraine in June 2025, is convinced that this stay will give the children a carefree time in Bavaria. This reports Mercury.

A holiday program was set up for a total of 29 internally displaced people from eastern Ukraine, children between the ages of 8 and 15, which includes sporting activities, excursions and encounters with Bavarian culture. Activities include tubing, a visit to the salt mine and sailing on Lake Tegernsee. Overnight stays at the Rabenmoosalm and in the Ruhpolding Mountains are also planned, which will bring the children closer to the beauty of nature. These two weeks in the children's village are not just an escape from everyday life; they also provide a platform for exchanging positive impressions. This emphasizes The Yellow Leaf.

Insights and support

The children who had to flee due to the Russian annexation of Crimea and the conflict in Donbass are enthusiastic about their experiences. A warm welcome from guests, including Vadym Kostiuk, the Consul General of Ukraine, and representatives from Caritas, set the scene for the start of the holiday. This support cannot be taken for granted, and the Consul General expressed his gratitude for the solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

The entire project is financed by donations, in particular from the Sternstunden charity campaign and the support association of the Caritas Children's Village Irschenberg. This ensures that the valuable experiences that the children gain can continue to take place.

Integration and support for young people

In addition to the holiday program, the children's village also looks after unaccompanied minor foreigners (UMA). There has been a special residential group here since May 2025, in which five young people from Afghanistan, Gambia and Somalia currently live. These young people receive support from educational professionals with the aim of successfully integrating into society. You not only receive help with language development, but also practical support in many areas of life. The initiative to accept refugee children is one of the tasks of the Bavarian youth welfare offices, as shown on b-umf can be read.

This combination of vacation for Ukrainian children and care for unaccompanied minor refugees shows how important it is to care for the most vulnerable in society. The Caritas Children's Village Irschenberg becomes a place of hope and newfound joy of life for all those affected by wars and conflicts.
