Shoplifting in Lohr: Over 10 euros in loot and an arrest warrant issued!

Last Friday, June 13, 2025, a shoplifter was caught red-handed in Lohr. At 2 p.m., staff at a supermarket on Rexrothstrasse caught two men who had cigarettes and beer worth a total of 18.28 euros in their pockets. While the older perpetrator, a 51-year-old, was confronted, he reacted extremely aggressively, threatened and insulted the employees, which ultimately led to the police being alerted. This also discovered that there was already an arrest warrant against the man. He was arrested and taken to a correctional facility. His accomplice, a 28-year-old man, was able to leave without further consequences because his loot was only worth 7.50 euros. Both perpetrators show a typical image of the shoplifter, although young people are often involved in such acts, as anwalt.org explains.

But what exactly is shoplifting? In German law, this is one of the simpler theft offenses according to Section 242 of the Criminal Code. It is clearly defined that taking away a movable property with the intention of unlawfully appropriating it is a criminal offense. Penalties can range from fines to imprisonment of up to five years - showing that this is no trivial matter. First-time offenders are often met with fines and there is the possibility that convictions do not appear on the police clearance certificate if they are below certain limits.

Accidents and other incidents

But that wasn't the only incident that made headlines that same day. In Frammersbach, a 56-year-old VW driver was checked at 12:50 a.m. Suspicion of alcohol and drug abuse quickly became widespread when the police smelled alcohol and the driver took the breathalyzer test without hesitation, which ultimately led to a blood sample being taken. It remains to be seen whether he will also have to expect a fine or a driving ban for his behavior.

Another explosive situation took place in Marktheidenfeld. Here, an unknown person carried out an accident between 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., causing damage estimated at 500 euros to a correctly parked gray VW Multivan. The police are now looking for witnesses who may be able to provide information about the perpetrator.

Damage to property and graffiti

The night from Wednesday to Thursday was also not without incidents. In the Edeka Kühhirt in Triefenstein, property was damaged when a shopping cart shelter was sprayed with three pieces of graffiti. The damage here also amounts to around 500 euros. The police have started an investigation and are looking for witnesses who might have observed something.

Overall, it appears that crime in certain areas, such as shoplifting, remains a serious issue. Between 2014 and 2024, high numbers of police-recorded cases were repeatedly registered, as Statista confirmed. Despite all preventive measures, society must remain vigilant because the acts show no signs of abating.
