A tragic scene took place on Thursday, August 15, 2025, in the Danube in Neu-Ulm. A 24-year-old man died while swimming. The swimming accident occurred when the young man was swimming in the river with a 25-year-old friend. It seemed like he was moving away from him. At the point where he sank, the current was stronger and the water was significantly deep, making the situation life-threatening. Suddenly the man stopped showing up, prompting a witness to alert emergency services. Antenne Bayern reports that divers from the Neu-Ulm water rescue service then initiated an intensive search and finally brought the man to the surface of the water.
The rescue team immediately tried to resuscitate the 24-year-old, both on site and on the way to the hospital. Unfortunately, it is feared that the man was already dead when he was rescued. Initially, the police assumed that he died in the hospital. However, the case has not yet been conclusively clarified and it is being determined whether the young man may have underestimated the current or panicked. The criminal police and the public prosecutor's office in Swabia South-West are taking a closer look at the incident in order to shed light on the exact circumstances of the swimming accident.
