Sonthofen has new elections: FDP mayoral candidate Lanbacher in focus!
In Sonthofen there is movement in the political landscape. The FDP recently organized an evening in Haus Oberallgäu, where Christian Lanbacher appeared as a candidate for mayor. The 61-year-old Sonthofer, who set up his own business in Augsburg after completing his apprenticeship as a blacksmith and master craftsman, wants to bring a breath of fresh air to the city. “There is a lack of momentum in Sonthofen,” says Lanbacher, who has been working as a construction consultant for almost two decades and is now looking for the challenge of leading his hometown as mayor. The FDP Sonthofen announced his candidacy in a press release and Lanbacher also confirmed this to the editorial team of the Allgäuer Zeitung.
Once on the city council, always on the city council? After a failed attempt six years ago, he was elected to the city council for the Free Voters in 2002. Four years ago, Lanbacher separated from the Free Voters and has been independent ever since, which does not prevent him from running under the banner of the FDP. “After almost 20 years as a construction officer, one has to say that decisions often only become visible in the cityscape after a decade,” he explained during his presentation.
Important topics and goals
Lanbacher has clear ideas about where Sonthofen should go. At the heart of his agenda are industry, trade and tourism - areas that he believes need to be better developed. He sees great potential in Sonthofen's geographical location and calls for more commercial space in order to exploit the city's economic opportunities. He also emphasizes the importance of tourism for the city's budget, which needs to be strengthened in order to stand on its own two feet.
Lanbacher also pays particular attention to strengthening the Bundeswehr in Sonthofen. He sees this as an opportunity for the catering industry and local businesses. The former FDP member of the Bundestag, Stephan Thomae, also promised his support in the election campaign and emphasized the importance of defining concrete goals for local and state politics.
Competition and challenges
However, the competition never sleeps. The Greens have already nominated Thomas Jortzig as a candidate for mayor. The coming months promise to be exciting. Lanbacher has set himself the goal of raising the profile of the city of Sonthofen and making the changes he promises visible. At a time when continuous change is the order of the day, it remains to be seen whether Lanbacher will be able to win voters over to his ideas.
The distribution of seats in the city council will also play a crucial role in the upcoming elections. This is done according to the Sainte-Laguë/Schepers calculation method, whereby the number of votes in the nominations is divided according to increased division numbers, which influences the distribution of seats. In a municipality with 7,000 residents where, for example, 20 municipal council seats are up for grabs, the votes cast determine the success of the candidates.
The coming elections could not only decide on the future of Christian Lanbacher, but also on the entire development of Sonthonfen. The tension is rising!
