On Saturday afternoon, the idylic surroundings around the quarry in Büchlberg in the Passau district became the scene of a dramatic accident. Three work colleagues from Poland ventured into the waters of the quarry, which, however, are anything but inviting due to the dangers that originate from such waters. One of the men, a 46-year-old, briefly dipped and did not come back to the surface, which the attendees put on alert. The quarry is known for bathing banned there, but many ignore this rule - a fact that the municipality now wants to fight with the installation of barrier tapes in order to hold further bathers. The Wasserwacht Vilshofen, the DLRG and the Passau police began with a large -scale search for the missing person at around 4 p.m. Despite the intensive efforts, the search for three hours was initially discontinued without unsuccessful, since the conditions in the water, in particular the water depth, even made the rescue operation more difficult. The authorities assume that the man has drowned, an assumption that is becoming more and more likely due to the circumstances.

A tragic incident with far -reaching consequences

The sad situation arouses memories of the dangers that are often underestimated in and on the water. In 2022, 411 people drowned in Germany, including 14 children. Both the Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft (DLRG) and other organizations are actively committed to safety in the water.
