Drone alarm shock: Munich Airport paralyzed – safety at risk!
Today, October 3, 2025, a serious security problem in Germany is becoming increasingly tangible. Drones circled a Bundeswehr site and paralyzed Munich Airport. This was reported by, among others Picture. It is striking that the sighting of “drone swarms” was also reported over Schleswig-Holstein on Friday night.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt commented on these developments and identified an “increased security threat” for Germany. He describes the threats as “abstract”, but at the same time “very concrete” in individual cases. Dobrindt points out that these drone overflights also include an “espionage component” and announces a restructuring of the security authorities’ competencies. These changes to the law are important to protect critical infrastructure and large gatherings of people.
Legal changes in focus
A central point of the planned measures is that the Bundeswehr should in future be legally authorized to work with the police to discover, intercept and, if necessary, shoot down drones. A new version of the Aviation Security Act is due to be presented this autumn. Dobrindt spoke of an “arms race between drone threats and drone defense” and outlined technical and operational measures that should contribute to the detection, classification and electronic defense of drones.
The measures also include the use of jammers and systems that can take over the control of unmanned flying objects. It remains to be seen how these changes will be implemented in reality and whether they actually represent a solution to the threatening situation that Denmark has already experienced with sightings of unidentified drones over military bases.
International situation and possible reasons
In Denmark, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reported “hybrid attacks” that could be seen in the context of the war in Ukraine. Russia has denied any involvement, although two weeks ago some Russian drones entered Poland's airspace and were intercepted by NATO. Reports of drones from Romania have also emerged.
In order to protect European airspace, the EU is planning to build a defense system, a so-called drone wall, which will close security gaps in the future. In a health-conscious country like Germany, such threats must be taken seriously, and it is clear that there is a critical need for action here.
