Hiking enthusiasts conquer the Heimgarten: summit experience at Walchensee!

Today, June 29, 2025, members of the German Alpine Association (DAV) from Pfaffenhofen-Asch went on an impressive hike in the Walchensee mountains. Organized by Mathilde Mader, the tour led from Ohlstadt to the Heimgarten, which, at 1,791 meters high, impressed not only the hikers, but also the surrounding landscape. From there, the participants had a breathtaking view of the Kochelsee and the popular Walchensee, whose intense turquoise water color is not easily forgotten. The Walchensee is a popular destination for hikers and offers stroller-friendly routes, such as the riverside path from Urfeld to Dingebach.

However, this hike was not just a sporting challenge. The participants were able to fortify themselves by stopping at the Heimgarten hut before heading back over the peaks of Rauheck (1,590 meters) and Buchrain (1,456 meters). In total, around 1100 meters of altitude were covered on this tour. The journey was comfortable with the DAV mountain bus, which made the trip a relaxed experience.

Preparations and safety

With the rising temperatures and the beginning of summer, tours in the Bavarian Alps are very popular. Walchensee also attracts many visitors, especially on weekends. For those who prefer a quieter hike, we recommend going on a weekday. The hiking trails are also tempting in winter, when the lake freezes over and transforms the landscape into a wintry fairytale world.

But the hiking enthusiasts in Pfaffenhofen don't just have nature in mind. On July 5, 2025, Raiffeisenstrasse in Pfaffenhofen am Ilm will be completely closed from 8 a.m. to midnight due to an event between house numbers 24 and 32. Diversions via Weiherer Straße (state highway 2045) and Joseph-Fraunhofer-Straße (federal highway B13) have already been set up to direct traffic.

Cultural events and education

There is of course a lot going on culturally in the region: On June 30th, an event organized by the “Working Group for People with Handicaps” will take place in Scheyern. The topic of “Understanding people better – personality and communication in everyday life” will be discussed in an impulse lecture and a subsequent discussion. Dieter Schwab, an experienced business coach and communication trainer, will welcome the participants at 7 p.m. in the town hall in Scheyern.

The focus is not just on people, education is not neglected either. A community college course with the humorous title “Is Farting Actually Embarrassing?” will take place on July 5, 2025 in Ingolstadt. The course is aimed at children aged 11 to 13 and includes etiquette training and a three-course meal. For a course fee of 22 euros plus 25 euros for the menu, the young participants can learn a lot.

If you feel like traveling, you can also register for a flight to Lanzarote, which is organized by several BBV district associations. Registrations are possible until July 11, 2025. Such travel offers show that the region has a lot to offer, and not just when it comes to hiking.

Positive trends in tourism

The latest figures from the Bavarian State Office for Statistics show encouraging developments in tourism. Almost 3.2 million guest arrivals were registered in April, an increase of 8.7% compared to the previous year. In the winter half of 2024/25, Bavarian accommodation providers welcomed a total of 12.2 million German guests - an increase of 3.4%. Campgrounds saw the biggest boost, with a 57.5% increase in overnight stays.

Lake Walchensee and its surroundings not only offer spectacular views, but also numerous opportunities for activities and events. This makes the region an attractive destination for nature lovers and those interested in culture alike.
