Former Jahn star Werner Michalka turns 70!

On October 4, 2025, former soccer player Werner Michalka will celebrate his 70th birthday. The Regensburg native made a name for himself at SSV Jahn Regensburg and ESV Ingolstadt in the 1970s and 1980s. His career began when he joined the SSV competition team as a teenager in the mid-1970s and quickly became a top performer there. The SSV Jahn congratulates Michalka on his special day and wishes him all the best.

Michalka came to SSV Jahn in 1974 when the club played in the regional league and missed qualifying for the 2nd Bundesliga. The legendary 1974/75 season under coach Aki Schmidt brought him his breakthrough. He played a key role in the direct resurgence of the team and played a total of 67 games in the 2nd Bundesliga South between 1975 and 1977, in which he scored five goals. His fairness on the pitch is particularly noteworthy - he was never sent off once throughout his career.

The time at ESV Ingolstadt

After SSV Jahn was relegated in 1977, Michalka moved to ESV Ingolstadt-Ringsee. There he celebrated great success, winning the Bayernliga championship in 1979 and becoming German amateur champion. He also remained a sought-after player in the 2nd Bundesliga and made a further 66 appearances until 1981 before the team missed relegation. Michalka's stay in Ingolstadt was marked by several sporting ups and downs, but his leadership and ability remained undisputed.

Return to SSV Jahn

In the summer of 1982, Michalka returned to SSV Jahn and took on the role of team captain. Under his leadership, they were promoted to the national league, where the team won the championship in 1983. His commitment to the club was reflected not only in playing success, but also in improving the club's structures. How Wikipedia reports, Michalka later also became involved in SV Harting, where he supported youth work and the AH team, thereby actively contributing to the promotion of young talent in football.

His career in football, which included both ups and downs, paints the picture of a passionate athlete who always had a good hand for his teams. Michalka is known not only for his achievements on the field, but also for his loyalty and fairness, making him a role model for many young players. This special day not only celebrates his birthday, but also the legacy of a true athlete who has shaped generations of fans.
