Be careful, drivers! A9 near Nuremberg closed until November 2025!
In the coming months, drivers can expect a number of construction sites and associated closures around Nuremberg. A particularly drastic project concerns the A9 motorway, a significant section of which will be closed until the end of November 2025. The closure, which affects the area between Allersberg and Hilpoltstein in the direction of Munich, begins on Monday, July 14th and is scheduled to last until Saturday, November 22nd. The reason: The replacement of the road surface, which is already 33 years old and has been badly affected by heavy traffic. Instead, the existing asphalt will be removed over a total distance of around 5.6 kilometers and replaced with modern, noise-optimized mastic asphalt. The total costs for this renovation amount to around 8 million euros.
It's not just the A9 that is being extensively renovated. Loud nordbayern.de There is also renovation work to be done on the A3 and A6 motorways. The tangent between Munich and Würzburg is particularly affected, especially in the area of the Nuremberg motorway junction. Various closure periods have been announced here, ranging from Sunday 16th March to Friday 21st March and beyond until 2nd April. During the affected periods, traffic will be diverted over a large area via the Altdorf motorway junction from around 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Construction site overview and effects
The majority of construction sites in Germany, like rnd.de reported, concentrates on around ten percent of the entire motorway network. A total of more than 2,000 kilometers are currently being renovated and over 1,000 construction projects are being processed at the same time. Construction activities that are carried out in both directions count twice.
The construction sites are not only a challenge for road users, but also a major cause of traffic jams. In particular, construction sites where lanes are eliminated or speeds are significantly reduced often lead to long traffic delays and critical situations. The same is expected from the work on the A9. Traffic in the direction of Munich will be redirected through an additional lane along the construction site, while the direction of Nuremberg will be affected by significant restrictions.
Overall, drivers face a major challenge when driving in the region. However, with a little patience and good planning, the construction sites can be mastered, and perhaps one or two detours will even lead to a new discovery in the beautiful surroundings of Nuremberg and beyond.
