Partridge return: health and sustainability celebrated in Schwanfeld!

The primary school in Schwanfeld is currently celebrating its “Health and Sustainability Week”. On this special occasion, students, teachers and guests gathered to enjoy a colorful program. The focus is on the important role of the partridge, which has become a rare phenomenon in our nature. In this context, an author reading of the children's book “The Four Seasons with the Partridges” took place, which was presented by Florian Endres and Meike-Lesley Neumann-Endres. Both authors explained to the children how important it is to promote the well-being of these special birds and how each individual can contribute Main post reported.

Each child received a signed copy of the book, which of course brought wide-eyed joy. The young listeners lively asked questions about topics such as hunting and nature conservation, which were answered with a lot of patience. The third graders were particularly active, not only dealing with partridges but also with pheasants in a short non-fiction text.

An exciting program for everyone

But it wasn't just the reading that caused excitement. The primary school also organized an apple juice campaign led by Wilfried Bauer, where the students were able to prepare freshly squeezed apple juice themselves. Another highlight was the cabbage mashing: third and fourth graders diligently helped prepare the cabbage, which will later be eaten at the bratwurst and cabbage day at school. The children experienced first hand how cabbages are split, sliced and worked with mashers. As a culmination, the clay pots were taken to the cellar for storage in order to preserve the fresh ingredients over the winter.

In addition to the healthy and sustainable program, a visit to the Ali Büttner basket theater was also on the agenda. The performance “Olga unpacks” captivated the young audience while at the same time making them think about eliminating packaging waste. The participatory theater provided a lot of laughter and fun, despite the serious topic.

Return of the partridges

But what's actually going on with the partridges? According to the German Wildlife Foundation These baby birds are really on the brink and need urgent support. The EU Interreg project PARTRIDGE is committed to preserving habitats and supporting farmers in creating flower strips. These colorful stripes of wild and cultivated plants are not only a feast for the eyes, but also act as breeding grounds and food sources for partridges.

The initiative is also being pushed forward in the German demonstration areas, where the aim is for at least 7% of the agricultural area to consist of flower strips. The preservation of such habitats is crucial for the survival of the partridges, which find shelter and food there. By implementing such measures, we can work together to ensure that partridges can be found more frequently in our fields and meadows in the future.

Schwanfeld shows that education, enjoyment and nature conservation can go hand in hand. The activities surrounding the partridge and the events at the primary school not only invite people to get involved, but also raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity in our surroundings.
