Gäubodenfest 2025: Peaceful celebrations despite the increase in violence in the city!

After the first four days of the famous Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing, a positive conclusion can be drawn. Like the police reported, the atmosphere was colorful and happy, and the visitors were able to celebrate peacefully despite numerous activities. Between Friday, August 8th and Monday, August 11th, a total of four physical injuries were reported on the festival grounds - a stable figure compared to the previous year.

The decline in acts of resistance against police officers is particularly noticeable: only one incident occurred, while four such acts of attack were recorded in 2024. This shows that visitors are increasingly treating each other and law enforcement more respectfully. The number of acts of resistance and physical attacks also fell in the city center, meaning that no incidents could be reported here, which is also seen as an improvement.

Disputes and traffic situation

There were also 16 disputes resolved by police at the festival site, an increase compared to 2024 when there were only 11 disputes. The balance is rounded off by four reported thefts, which remained unchanged compared to the previous year. In the city center, on the other hand, the police registered 12 assault crimes, which is twice as many as in 2024, but overall does not reflect the reports of violent acts at other Bavarian festivals, where there were sometimes dramatic increases - so many festivals speak of a brutalization of society as the evening newspaper discussed.

The traffic situation on the streets around the festival site was also in focus. A total of 14 drivers were taken off the road due to being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police found 13 cases of drunk driving, which is a slight decrease compared to 2024. Above all, it is important to sensitize visitors not to drive drunk and thereby endanger themselves and others.

Enjoyable lantern ride

A highlight of the festival was the lantern ride, which attracted numerous visitors in the brilliant weather. For safety reasons, the entrances and the castle bridge had to be closed before the event began to prevent overcrowding. The many positive feedback shows that the organization and the population's understanding of what the police are doing are in good harmony determines.

Overall, the start of the festival was quite promising. Despite the local increase in physical injuries in the city center, the overall picture was friendly and characterized by respectful interaction. The police will continue to keep a close eye on events to ensure a safe stay for all visitors.
