A terrible incident occurred on September 9th at 3:30 p.m. on the railway line between Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven. A 68-year-old man from Bremen was hit by a regional train in the Wremen area, exactly at railway kilometer 198.2, and was seriously injured. The train was on its way from Cuxhaven to Bremerhaven and completed its journey at a speed of around 80 km/h. The driver noticed the man in the track area in good time and blew a warning whistle before initiating rapid braking. Rescue and consequences of the accident
The injured man was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in a rescue helicopter. Fortunately, around 50 passengers who were also on the train were uninjured, but had to continue their journey by bus. The route between Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven was closed to train traffic for more than two hours until 5:46 p.m., which led to significant delays and changes to rail operations.
