As the first Advent approaches, the festive mood can be felt in many regions of Germany. One of the up-and-coming Christmas markets is the arts and crafts Christmas market in the open-air museum on Kiekeberg, which opens its doors from December 12th to 14th, 2025. Every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can immerse themselves in the world of handmade products and see the various craftsmen in action. The entrance fee is 11 euros, but entry is free for children and young people under 18.
The stalls offer an impressive selection of handmade items: from clothing to soaps to metal and wooden decorations. Among the exhibitors are glassblowers, blacksmiths and wood turners who carry out their art on site. Particularly noteworthy is the carpentry workshop, where woodwork is made directly on a band saw. Small appetites are also catered for: Christmas cookies from the wood-fired oven are available in the museum bakery, and the museum café and the inn offer a selection of food and drinks.
A program for the whole family
This market is a small highlight for families with children. The program includes cutting amber in cooperation with the “Natureum Niederelbe” and crafts for Christmas presents. A particularly sweet extra: Santa Claus distributes treats to the children on weekend afternoons.
Getting to the open-air museum is easy. It takes about 40 minutes to get there by car; If you use public transport, it takes around an hour. There is a direct connection to the “Museum Kiekeberg” stop, which is right in front of the entrance. More information can be viewed on the museum's website.
