Thorsten Schorr re-elected as first district councilor!

The political landscape in the Hochtaunus district has once again proven itself: Thorsten Schorr was elected with an overwhelming majority for a second term as first district councilor on July 24, 2025. With an impressive 64 out of 68 votes, Schorr received support from a broad coalition consisting of the CDU, SPD, FW, Greens, FDP and Left, while the AfD voted against him. This shows that Schorr is also very popular in the opposition.

His next term begins on January 1, 2026 and will again last six years. That sounds like a clear sign of trust from the district council members. After the election, District Administrator Ulrich Krebs, who supported Schorr during the election, symbolically presented him with an organ pipe from the Klais organ of the St. Marien Church in Bad Homburg. Schorr, himself an organist, received a voucher for a one-hour playing on this magnificent organ.

Diverse areas of responsibility

In his role as first district councilor, Schorr heads Department II of the district administration, which is responsible for numerous important areas. These include, among others:

  • Führerschein und Kfz-Zulassung
  • Ordnungs- und Straßenangelegenheiten
  • Verwaltungsservice
  • Umwelt, Naturschutz und Bauleitplanung
  • Ländlicher Raum
  • Bauaufsicht und Denkmalschutz
  • Immissionsschutz
  • Tourismus
  • Wasser- und Bodenschutz
  • Gesundheitsdienste
  • Veterinärwesen und Verbraucherschutz
  • Fachstelle Mobilität, Klimaschutz, nachhaltige Kreisentwicklung und Umweltbildung

Schorr brings a lot of experience with him: Before his time in the district, he had already served as a city councilor, treasurer and head of the fire department in Oberursel. His solid training as a banker certainly also contributed to his successful political career.

A positive sign for cooperation

After the election, Schorr was very pleased with the broad support he received and emphasized that this was a positive sign for cooperation in the district council. The coalition of the various parties seems to be able to think beyond party boundaries and work together for the citizens of the Hochtaunus district. A look into the past shows that discussions about the distribution of offices and political alliances had already stirred people's minds some time before this election, such as the district council elections on July 1, 2019, when Schorr also ran for office and was elected. [FNP] describes that at that time a coalition between the CDU and SPD, supported by the FDP and parts of the FW, was already formed to elect Schorr.

The future tasks will remain exciting and Schorr will have his hands full meeting the expectations of citizens and his political supporters. One thing is certain: With Thorsten Schorr, the Hochtaunus district has a committed and competent first district councilor who will bring a breath of fresh air into the administration with his positive enthusiasm.
