Lawn on Höchster Straße: Police caught eight speeders!
How often have we asked ourselves the question: “How fast is too fast?” The issue of speed in road traffic is not only a constant hit on the motorways, but also in the cities. In Breuberg-Sandbach on Sunday, August 10, 2025, between 4:30 p.m. and 5:40 p.m., it once again became clear that the police were taking high security precautions. As part of the nationwide “Speedweek”, a speed camera marathon, the speed of the vehicles was monitored here on Höchster Straße (Kreisstraße 212). Loud my-news.de The South Hesse Police Headquarters confirmed the findings that a total of eight speeding violations were detected during the checks.
A traffic violation happened quickly, and that's not all. In addition to the speeding, there was also a seat belt violation. The affected drivers now have to expect warning fines. Above all, it will be exciting for four of the drivers, who will now each collect a point in Flensburg - expensive fun that should also be a lesson.
The speed camera marathon at a glance
The speed camera marathon 2025, which took place from August 4th to 10th, highlights the challenges in traffic during the summer holidays. An alarming time for many commuters and holidaymakers. As the Car newspaper reports, speed controls attract everyone's attention, especially in accident-prone areas of the city, such as near schools or kindergartens. This second “Speedweek” this year has fewer federal states involved than the first in the spring.
Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein, among others, are actively involved. It is also interesting that speed camera locations are often announced - this does not surprise some drivers. However, anyone who finds out about speed camera apps needs to know that using them while driving is illegal. This can quickly become expensive: fines of at least 75 euros and a point in Flensburg are the result.
The fines in numbers
Of course, we also have to talk about the fines for speeding. The following table shows the penalties for speeding:
| Inner town | Out of town |
|---|---|
| up to 10 km/h – 58.50 euros | up to 10 km/h – 48.50 euros |
| 11-15 km/h – 78.50 euros | 11-15 km/h – 68.50 euros |
| 16-20 km/h – 98.50 euros | 16-20 km/h – 88.50 euros |
| 21-25 km/h – 143.50 euros (1 point) | 21-25 km/h – 128.50 euros (1 point) |
| 26-30 km/h – 208.50 euros (1 point, 1 month driving ban) | 26-30 km/h – 178.50 euros (1 point, 1 month driving ban) |
| 31-40 km/h – 288.50 euros (2 points, 1 month driving ban) | 31-40 km/h – 228.50 euros (1 point, 1 month driving ban) |
| 41-50 km/h – 428.50 euros (2 points, 1 month driving ban) | 41-50 km/h – 348.50 euros (2 points, 1 month driving ban) |
| 51-60 km/h – 591.50 euros (2 points, 2 months driving ban) | 51-60 km/h – 508.50 euros (2 points, 2 months driving ban) |
| 61-70 km/h – 738.50 euros (2 points, 3 months driving ban) | 61-70 km/h – 633.50 euros (2 points, 2 months driving ban) |
| over 70 km/h – 843.50 euros (2 points, 3 months driving ban) | over 70 km/h – 735.50 euros (2 points, 3 months driving ban) |
Conclusion: A speed camera marathon does bring about temporary lower speeds, but a study by the University of Passau shows that the effect is not permanent. After the marathon, drivers tend to return to their old driving style. It is therefore important to practice responsible driving even outside of such campaign weeks and to always keep road safety in mind. This will keep road traffic safer for everyone – and perhaps also less expensive.
