Traffic accidents in context
In order to better understand such incidents, it is essential to take a look at the current traffic accident statistics. According to statistics from destatis.de There were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in Germany in 2024. While the total number of accidents fell compared to the previous year, the number of accidents resulting in property damage increased. What is particularly noteworthy is that the number of accidents resulting in personal injuries remains at the 1955 level.
The effort to reduce road deaths is part of Vision Zero, a goal set by EU transport ministers to achieve zero road deaths by 2050. In 2024, 2,770 traffic deaths were registered in Germany, which represents a decrease compared to previous decades.
Nevertheless, the number of traffic accidents remains high. In particular, human factors such as inattention and recklessness continue to contribute to many accidents. There are increasing reports while riding e-bikes and e-scooters, which are also causing an increase in the number of accidents.
Overall, it shows that the traffic situation requires constant attention and every road user can help reduce accidents and damage to property. The police and the affected cities are appealing to the population to be careful and possibly provide valuable information to increase road safety.
