Zimmersrode in shock: Brazen car break-ins at night!

A security problem is currently becoming visible in the Schwalm-Eder district: unknown perpetrators broke into twelve parked vehicles in Neuental-Zimmersrode last weekend. The night raids took place between midnight and 5 a.m. on Saturday morning nh24.de reported. The affected owners filed a report with the police station in Homberg after discovering the devastation on their vehicles.

The perpetrators smashed the side windows with an unknown object or used unlocked cars. The areas inside the vehicles were ransacked: glove compartments, center consoles and trunks were affected. The loot they took included a backpack, several wallets, cash and two “The North Face” jackets. An attempt to break in was unsuccessful because the windows withstood the attack, but this caused property damage. The total damage is estimated to be in the mid to upper four-digit range.

Looking for witnesses

The police are now looking for witnesses who noticed suspicious people or vehicles on Saturday night. At the same time, a drinks and coffee machine were broken into in neighboring Borken; the amount of damage caused there is still unclear.

But the incidents in the Schwalm-Eder district are not the only car break-ins in the region. A 33-year-old man from the Schwalm-Eder district has been in custody since April 2024 after he is suspected of being involved in a series of car break-ins in Melsungen. At least seven vehicles were broken into here, including models such as Kia, Seat, Audi and many more. The total damage of over 6,000 euros speaks for itself and shows the extent of the problem HNA reported.

The impact on insurance

In the case of car break-ins, those affected also have to deal with the conditions of their insurance. While partial comprehensive insurance covers damage after theft, there are also requirements for replacement costs and deductibles. Such policies not only offer protection against theft, but also against damage caused by broken windows, such as GDV informed. This makes it even more important for vehicle owners to protect themselves well.

The criminal police in Homberg have started investigations into the two incidents and ask the public to contact them immediately if they suspect anything. In times when road safety is at risk, a watchful eye is essential.
