Orange Days in the district: Send a strong signal against violence against women!

In Cologne from November 25th to December 10th there will once again be an important focus on the issue of violence against women. This period, known as Orange Days, begins around the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends with Human Rights Day. These days, not only are numerous buildings and monuments illuminated in orange to create visibility for the serious problem, but also various actions are carried out that draw attention to the need to raise awareness of this issue. 112 magazine reports that the number of victims of domestic violence registered by the police in Germany rose to an alarming 265,942 in 2024, with the majority of those affected, namely 73 percent, being women.

The need to focus on the issue of violence against women was also emphasized by First District Councilor Karl-Friedrich Frese. In order to further interlink the topic, the Department for Women and Equal Opportunities has organized an exciting program for the Orange Days. Particularly noteworthy is the 2022 film “She Said,” which will be shown at Kino K. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a champagne reception, the film can be seen from 7 p.m., and tickets are available online for just five euros.

Promotions and events

The youth centers in Korbach and Bad Wildungen also offer creative opportunities to raise awareness. There will be an event in the Korbach youth center on November 13th in which girls aged 12 and over will design jute bags. Free painting activities for children and young people aged 8 and over will also be offered in the Bad Wildungen youth center on November 21st between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The creative jute bags can then be purchased at the cinema event for a donation, with the proceeds going to the Women Help Women e.V. association.

But that's not all: other interesting events are planned in Bad Wildungen. On November 26th, speaker Steffi Burmester will give a lecture on forced marriage practices in Germany. A seminar entitled “Seeing Violence and Helping” for girls and women aged 16 and over is scheduled for November 27th. And on December 5th there will be a free self-defense course “NO means NO!” on the program for girls aged 10 and over.

The sign in orange

The color orange, which permeates these actions, represents hope, visibility and a call to end violence against women worldwide. The day of action and the accompanying events provide an important space for discussion and education - and the social relevance of these topics is sustainably strengthened through such initiatives.

Overall, the Orange Days are not just an opportunity to raise awareness. Above all, they also offer a platform to actively combat violence and strengthen women - an issue that concerns us all. The coming weeks promise exciting and insightful events that are worth attending.
