Air conditioning hype in Germany: production increases by 75.1 percent!
In the last five years, the production of air conditioning systems in Germany has experienced an impressive boom. An increase of a whopping 75.1 percent shows that air conditioning units are more in demand than ever in times of climatic changes. According to a report by the Time 181,000 devices were manufactured in 2019, while around 317,000 units rolled off the assembly line in 2024. This boom also had a significant impact on the economic indicators: the total value of air conditioning systems produced rose by 34.4 percent to 1.5 billion euros.
But with all this growth, imports also play a crucial role. In 2024, air conditioning imports amounted to 949 million euros, an increase of 48.2 percent compared to 640 million euros in 2019. However, the peak of import values was already reached in 2023, when 957 million euros were imported, as the Statistical data confirm.
Origin of air conditioning systems
The majority of imported air conditioning units come from Italy, which had a share of 25 percent (237 million euros) in 2024. Other important suppliers are China with 13.7 percent and Sweden with 10.4 percent. This distribution shows how international the procurement of air conditioning units has become.
It is interesting to note that despite increasing demand and production, German air conditioning exports fell by 2.8 percent to 713 million euros in 2024. This raises questions about the challenges facing the industry. Perhaps this shows that the domestic market is growing so dynamically that a large part of the production stays here instead of being sold abroad.
Market on the rise
In summary, the demand for air conditioning systems in Germany has increased enormously since 2019, and both domestic production and imports are benefiting from this trend. With over 317,000 units produced in 2024 and an increase in value in the industry, the air conditioning industry in Germany faces a bright future.
