A lot is happening in Celle's art scene, as the New Town Hall offers exciting insights into the work of the renowned painter and graphic artist Eberhard Schlotter. This cultural highlight is presented under the title “Adventure Archive” and invites art lovers and the curious to discover the treasures and surprises from Schlotter's life's work. Eberhard Schlotter was born on June 3, 1921 in Hildesheim and died on September 8, 2014 in Altea, Spain. He was not only a talented painter, but also a recognized graphic artist, whose influence on German art after 1950 cannot be denied. His life's work includes paintings, watercolors, drawings and prints, which are now managed by the Eberhard Schlotter Foundation in Celle. Exciting events in the town hall
The events surrounding Schlotter are organized under the direction of Dietrun Otten. On August 28, 2025, a new addition from Schlotter's estate will be presented, which includes numerous graphics on permanent loan. But that's just the beginning: On October 30, 2025, the event “Schlotter from Private Ownership” will take place, which will show new donations from Karin Dietz, Schlotter's partner. On November 27, 2025, the focus will be on “archives” from the estate, in which the artist's personal items are in the foreground.
A special highlight will certainly be the museum talk in the “Immerseum” of the Bomann Museum on September 28, 2025, where virtual reality enables a new dimension in art education. An artist with many facets
Eberhard Schlotter's artistic career began in his youth, and he developed a unique style influenced by Cubism and Fauvism while studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. After the Second World War, Schlotter increasingly turned to modern painting and erected numerous murals in Darmstadt, including “Joy of Life” and “Women Making Music”. These works reflect his longing for peace and joy of life, even if they were perceived as unfashionable in later years.
His creative work in Altea, where he purchased a farmhouse in 1956, shaped his final years. The Eberhard Schlotter Foundation in Altea was founded in 1995, further evidence of his tireless influence and commitment to preserving his work for posterity. His artistic achievements have been recognized with awards such as the Federal Cross of Merit and the Lower Saxony Order of Merit, and his legacy lives on.
