Beach volleyball summit in Cuxhaven: defending champions triumph despite the rain!

At the weekend, Cuxhaven was a real mecca for beach volleyball fans. The 33rd Mahrenholz Beach Volleyball Cup of BC Cuxhaven, which took place from Friday to Sunday, attracted around 900 active players. Despite bad weather forecasts and a subsequent downpour that began during the finals, the mood among the participants and spectators was not dampened. Many sports enthusiasts followed the action in the Sparkassen Beach Arena, be it from the promenade or from the stands, and created a great atmosphere, as cnv-medien.de reported.

Rüdiger Sauer, the BC Cuxhaven tournament manager, was very satisfied with the organization of the event. A total of 27 volleyball courts were built and the games ran almost continuously. The athletes had an exciting time, especially during the A Cups, which were held in the women's and men's categories.

Exciting competitions and victories

In the men's field, the top seeded duo Jelte Johanning and Maximilian Pelle prevailed. The team around Julia Kopf and Christin Müller was successful among the women. It is particularly worth mentioning that the only Cuxhaven player, Annalen Brandt, reached ninth place with her partner. Dirk Heitmann, the tournament director of the A-Cups, was more than satisfied with the response compared to previous years. In the A-Cups for women and men, valuable points were awarded for the German Championships, which are taking place in Timmendorfer Strand this year. Tickets for the German Championship are already sold out.

  • Platzierungen der A-Cups:
  • Frauen: Julia Kopf und Christin Müller – Sieger
  • Männer: Jelte Johanning und Maximilian Pelle – Sieger
  • Fun A: Ronnys Gang – Sieger (Familie Müller aus Otterndorf)
  • Zweiter Platz in der Fun-Klasse: Ding Deitz
  • Annalen Brandt und ihre Partnerin: 9. Platz

The prize money totaling 650 euros was also an incentive for the participating teams. The “Ronnys Gang” team was able to successfully defend their title in the Fun A category and thus demonstrated their skills on the sand surface. The final games took place under gray skies, but the creative weather still made the finals exciting as the rain only started after the crucial matches.

View of the German Beach Tour

The event in Cuxhaven was part of the German Beach Tour (GBT), which is considered the highest German beach volleyball tournament series and plays an important role in Europe. In 2025, the GBT will include a total of eight tour stops, each with four event days and the German Championship as the crowning glory. There will be plenty of food options for fans and spectators on event days, including food trucks with vegetarian and vegan options to suit every taste. The concept that children under five can take part free of charge when accompanied by an adult ticket holder shows the family-friendly nature of the events.

There was also a small foretaste of what the spectators experienced in the Sparkassen Beach Arena in Cuxhaven. We can only hope that the next tournaments are just as successful and that the enthusiasm for beach volleyball continues to grow.
