Helping people to help themselves: Lübberings strengthen the Schwaförderner community
In Schwaförden, Dagmar and Reiner Lübbering put their heart and soul into helping people who are in difficult situations. Your self-help group “maus” offers space for exchange and support for those affected. The meeting point is in the community center in Schalen, where around ten people gather regularly to share their personal stories and work together on their challenges. "We value direct contact. Eye contact and personal approach are important to us," says Reiner Lübbering.
Not only has the group thrived during the pandemic, but it has also taken an inclusive approach. “maus” was founded with the support of a project grant from the AOK, and participants are cordially invited to share their experiences in a protected setting. "The meetings are confidential. There is no membership and the participants are equals," adds Dagmar Lübbering. Self-help groups, such as those run by Reiner and Dagmar, offer a valued space for the exchange of experiences, which is also used by many in connection with health impairments, as the German Red Cross notes.
Active commitment and valuable support
“The self-help group is an important starting point for anyone who finds themselves in stressful situations,” explains Dagmar. They use flyers and information stands to draw attention to their group. “This allows us to reach even more people who may need help,” adds Reiner.
One aspect that makes “maus” special is the waiting list that has been set up to limit group size. This shows that there is great interest in participating in the discussions free of charge. The next meetings are scheduled for October 28th and in November on the 11th and 25th and in December on the 9th and 23rd. In addition, meetings take place every 14 days on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the “Haus Fernblick” in Freistatt, where participants are also welcome.
Individual stories and hand flatterers
Reiner Lübbering brings his own story of addiction and recovery to the group, creating trust and understanding among the participants. To keep the memories of the group alive, he carved 50 small wooden mice that serve as hand flatterers. “These little mice are more than just objects; they represent our community and the common path,” he says proudly.
The “maus” self-help group has its own website where interested parties can find further information. For anyone who needs support or just wants to talk, Reiner and Dagmar Lübbering can be reached on 04277/285 or by email at kontakt@maus.help. The website www.maus.help also provides helpful information.
It is clear that with “maus” Dagmar and Reiner Lübbering not only give those affected a voice, but also provide valuable support in their community. Support groups provide invaluable opportunities to break isolation and find help, especially during difficult times.
