Sportivation Day in Meppen: Diversity and inclusion inspire 1200 participants!
In Meppen recently the motto was “Ready, set, go!”. With an impressive number of participants of over 1,200 people, the Sportivation Day impressively demonstrated how inclusion can be practiced in sport. The event was opened by First District Councilor Martin Gerenkamp and Mayor Helmut Knurbein, who emphasized in their speeches the importance of this festival for the community and the visible diversity in society. The participants were able to demonstrate their sporting talent in various disciplines such as sprinting, long jump and throwing. The focus was not only on the sporting achievements, but also on the individual success of each individual. In addition to the competitions, there was a colorful games festival that provided entertainment and fun. The day was organized by the KreisSportBund Emsland, which received active support from sports badge examiners and students from remedial education schools.
A celebration of diversity and community
The goal of Sportivation Day was clear: to make diversity and community visible. This year too, various supporters contributed to the successful implementation, including the Lower Saxony Disabled Sports Association, the Lower Saxony Lotto Sports Foundation and other local sponsors such as savings banks and Gasunie Deutschland. At the end of the day, all participants received a medal - a sign that sport connects and empowers inclusion.
The Sportivation Days are now an integral part of the annual calendar of schools in Lower Saxony. In the past, children with and without disabilities have been able to take part in these exciting events together. A movement for inclusion
A comprehensive strategy for inclusion in sport works in the background, namely the “Master Plan for Inclusion in Lower Saxony Sport”. This was developed by various associations, including the LandesSportBund Niedersachsen and the Disabled Sports Association Lower Saxony. The plan includes 28 formulated goals that are to be implemented by the end of 2024. By 2030, sports clubs should be developed in such a way that people with disabilities can take part in sports on an equal basis, be it as participants or in voluntary positions.
