Revolution in banking: merger of the Volksbanks creates a new beginning

Raiffeisen-Volksbank Varel-Nordenham has had a remarkable 2024 financial year. How nwzonline.de reported that the customer credit volume climbed by a whopping 8.9% to 740 million euros. But that's not all: customer deposits also grew by 51 million euros to 816 million euros, which increased the bank's total assets to 1.068 billion euros - an increase of 4.49%. These pleasing figures reflect the strong trust of over 36,000 customers, which ensures support from 153 employees and other trainees.

But it's not just the numbers that are impressive. The bank is a company that is socially committed. Last year, 889 new members were gained - for each new member, an oak tree was planted in the Varel forest. It should also be good news for many that the bank has supported 106 projects with around 112,000 euros. The bank also remains active from a tax perspective and paid 5.4 million euros to the tax authorities.

Off to new shores: three-way merger under the banner of Volksbank Jade-Weser

Part of Raiffeisen-Volksbank Varel-Nordenham's future plans is the upcoming three-way merger with Volksbank Jever eG and Raiffeisenbank Butjadingen-Abbehausen eG. How rvbvarelnordenham.de notes, the management and supervisory boards of both banks voted unanimously in favor of this merger. It will result in the founding of the new “Volksbank Jade-Weser eG”, which will have total assets of over 2.6 billion euros and a loan and investment volume of more than 3.6 billion euros. The aim of the merger is to strengthen cooperative values and regional roots.

The merger promises to create one of the largest cooperative banks in the region, serving around 85,000 private and corporate customers. In addition, around 420 employees will be deployed at 16 locations in the Jade-Weser region. This development not only opens up new career prospects, but also strengthens the focus on customer proximity and personal support.

Future in view

The decision on the merger will be made at the representative meeting on June 24th, at which 158 representatives will be present Statista reported. This vote could represent another milestone in the history of the region's banking landscape. If the decision is positive, the resolutions will apply retroactively to January 1, 2025. With the merger expected to be implemented in the third quarter of 2025, it is already clear that the banking landscape in Germany is in constant flux and mergers play an important role.

Raiffeisen-Volksbank Varel-Nordenham is facing exciting times, and the coming months will show how the new structures will impact the service offering and social responsibility. One thing is certain, however: we are investing heavily here and with a clear view of the future.
