Shooting festival in Gifhorn: How to get there safely and stay sober!

The Gifhorn District Transport Company (VLG) has not planned any special trips because managing director Christian Geymeier is convinced that the regular range of trips is sufficient. The Gifhorn Schützenplatz and Gifhorn Health Office stops are in the immediate vicinity of the festival site and offer convenient travel for all celebrants. However, to avoid unnecessary waiting times, it is advisable to order taxis in advance. The Hoffmann taxi company will be in operation around the clock with its entire fleet of 22 vehicles, while the Nicklas company offers trips from Thursday to Saturday, but does not operate on Sundays.

Drinking alcohol while driving

Although the celebrations are sure to bring many social moments, the police are clear about drinking alcohol in traffic. She makes an urgent appeal: If you drink alcohol, don't drive! The fines are hefty: with a level between 0.5 and 1.09 per mille it can cost up to 1,500 euros, and there are also two points in Flensburg and a three-month driving ban. E-scooters are now also considered motor vehicles and are subject to the same blood alcohol limits.

In 2024 there were 85 accidents under the influence of alcohol in Gifhorn, which represents a slight increase compared to 82 accidents in 2023. Particularly alarming: Last year, 209 driving under the influence of alcohol were detected, an increase compared to 140 cases in 2023. The highest alcohol level in 2023 was 3.86 per mille, found in a 46-year-old driver. To avoid such incidents, everyone should take responsibility for themselves and others. Finally, pedestrians and cyclists can also receive fines for drinking alcohol.
