Heroes of the future: Special education nursing graduates celebrate their graduation!

On July 2, 2025, a happy event was celebrated at the BBS Health and Social Affairs District of Grafschaft Bentheim: the graduates of curative education nursing and occupational therapy received their final certificates. Ten newly qualified special education nurses and three occupational therapists can now hope for an exciting career. The three-year training period was an important stage for the graduates, which they have now successfully completed. In the ceremonial setting, director of studies Katja Spieard presented the certificates, while teacher Silke Kluhs, who was also class leader, proudly looked back on the time together.

A very special moment was the speech by teacher Sabrina Vollmer to say goodbye to the graduates. Among the young professionals who now have the title “Bachelor Professional in Social Work” you can find names like Elif Yüksel, Leyla Rein and Steven Faber. The ceremony was celebrated in the presence of families and friends, which further underlined the importance of this day.

Let’s zoom in on the training

Training to become a curative nurse is an exciting path to responsible work for many young people. In order to be able to take part in curative education care, those interested need a lower secondary education or an equivalent level of education. They must also meet one of the specified conditions, such as attending a vocational school or successfully completing at least two years of vocational training in the social sector. Ess-Hameln describes that the training can take place in a dual system as well as in school and practical blocks.

The practical training content includes, among other things, the care, education and upbringing of people with special needs. At least 1,500 hours of time must be spent in these areas. This practical experience is crucial in order to be able to overcome the challenges of the field of work. The graduates not only learn how to develop basic special education assistance services, but also how to take on managerial responsibilities.

The way into the future

The majority of graduates plan to leave their professional footsteps in the county and Emsland. Be it in direct care or in the implementation of educational offers - the new special education nurses are ready to apply what they have learned. One committed graduate even decided to start studying social work, which fits perfectly with the skills she has learned.

By successfully completing the course, graduates not only receive the professional title of “state-recognized medical education nurse with the title of “Bachelor Professional in Social Work”, but also the technical college entrance qualification, which will enable them to continue their education or pursue an academic career. DQR highlights that these qualifications benefit not only the individual, but also society as a whole.

In summary: The celebration at the BBS Health and Social Affairs was a first-class conclusion to a chapter and the starting signal for new professional challenges that the graduates will tackle with a good hand and the necessary knowledge.
