Drama on the A2: Serious traffic accident leaves several injured!

On Thursday afternoon, October 30, 2025, there was a serious traffic accident on the A2 near Helmstedt, involving a total of four vehicles. At around 3:35 p.m., the fire and rescue services were alerted after several vehicles, including three cars and a van, were involved in a violent collision. A car caught fire during the incident and had to be put out by the fire department, as news38.de reported.

The Königslutter and Ochsendorf local fire departments were quickly on the scene. Fortunately, all vehicle occupants were able to exit their vehicles before emergency services arrived. The fire was quickly brought under control and cleanup and cleaning work was carried out in the left lane.

Rescue and injured

Together with the firefighters, the emergency services also got to work. In total, they cared for seven injured people, some of whom were taken to nearby hospitals. The Helmstedt fire brigade was also on duty, especially after a vehicle left the road, crashed into a tree and ended up on the driver's side, as can be read in another report on feuerwehr.de.

The challenging rescue operation required the use of hydraulic rescue equipment to free a seriously injured person from the vehicle. They were quickly given medical care, while the fire department had to remove various trees to make access to the scene of the accident easier. The entire operation took around two hours and was monitored by operations manager Roland Junge.

Emergency services on site

A total of 17 emergency services from both fire departments, led by Matthias van der Wall, were deployed to clear the street of fires and debris after extinguishing the fire. After the rescue and clean-up work was completed, the site was handed over to the responsible police officers.

Considering the severity of the accident, it is fortunate that there were no serious injuries. This incident shows once again how important it is for emergency services to act quickly to prevent the worst.
