Next weekend, August 16th and 17th, 2025, there are numerous exciting events on the program in the Osnabrück region that are an absolute must not only for locals but also for visitors. Whether at the fair in Merzen or at cultural highlights – there is something for everyone here.
It starts in Merzen on Saturday, August 16th. The fair is celebrated around the St. Lambertus Church. It starts with the free beer tapping at 6 p.m., followed by live music from Bruni (Wippsteert) at 7 p.m. The 23rd Merzen Fair Run in aid of the German Children's Cancer Foundation is expected on Sunday at 11 a.m., which will certainly attract many participants and spectators again. The festival tent takes care of your physical well-being, with coffee and cake being offered at 2 p.m. The raffle of the holiday fun puzzle at 4 p.m. will be particularly exciting, with prizes worth 300 euros. Entertainment from balloon artists and magicians is also planned - it's going to be a festive weekend!
Cultural highlights
On Sunday, August 17th, there will also be an organ concert in St. Catherine's Church in Voltlage. From 5 p.m., visitors can enjoy an hour of concert music. Admission is free, although donations are requested. If the weather cooperates, the evening will end comfortably with a drink on the church forecourt.
The Ahausen-Sitter-Walsum shooting festival, which opens its doors from Saturday, August 16th to Monday, August 18th, is also worth seeing. The festival program offers a lot: On Saturday evening there will be a shooting service in the festival tent, followed by a dance with the band Starlights at 9 p.m. On Sunday there will be a special ceremony with the pick-up of the royal couple and exciting shooting competitions. Monday begins with a morning pint, which creates a good atmosphere with the “morning pint poets” and the accordion player Dominik.
Exhibition and leisure activities
You should also not miss the new exhibition in the museum at Bersenbrück Monastery, which is entitled “Art from Next Door”. Artist Jutta Kirk-Lahrmann from Gehrde will open her works on Saturday, August 16th, at 3 p.m. The exhibition can be viewed until September 14, 2025 and promises to be a real eye-catcher.
For swimmers and night owls there is a moonlight swim in the Bippen outdoor pool on Saturday evening. From 5 p.m., all sports fans and swimming fans can enjoy the evening with music from a live band and use the outdoor pool until 11 p.m. If you like it cozy, you will find a colorful mix of flea market and children's activities around the “Old Fire Station” in Engter on Sunday, August 17th. Breakfast is served here from 8 a.m. and there is an exciting program for the little ones with a pedal forklift course, a bouncy castle and more.
