Osnabrück is preparing for Lower Saxony's mega day!

From August 29th to 31st, 2025, Osnabrück will be the venue for the “Day of Lower Saxony” – a festival that is celebrated every two years in a different city in Lower Saxony. This time the city is not only celebrating its 38th anniversary, but also has the honor of hosting for the first time. Around 400,000 visitors are expected, which is more than twice as many people as the city's population. Under the motto “Osnabrück makes it possible”, a colorful program is being put together that focuses on regional identity and the coexistence of generations. This reports antenna.

Lower Saxony Day is considered the largest state festival in the state and has been celebrated regularly in different cities since 1981. The event aims to promote community interaction in the cultural and club landscape of Lower Saxony. Osnabrück's mayor Katharina Pötter proudly expressed her joy at choosing her city as the venue.

The diverse program

The festival program will offer both musical highlights and numerous activities for the whole family. National and international artists will perform on eight large stages, including bands such as Mando Diao, The Subways and Alli Neumann. But sediments like Heavysaurus and Heinz Rudolf Kunze will also be there. Four to five smaller stages are also planned where local talent can present their skills. Musical entertainment will also be offered by popular radio stations such as NDR, ffn and Radio 21, which will delight visitors with various artists and bands, according to a report from Bunny mail.

Another highlight of the day will be the festival and traditional costume parade on Sunday. Around 100 groups and around 2,200 participants will parade through the streets and present the cultural diversity and traditions of Lower Saxony.

Logistics and organization

The event is organized by various partners, including the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport as well as many voluntary clubs and associations. Project manager Larissa Frommeyer is responsible for the comprehensive planning and is faced with the challenge of making optimal use of the city center. To avoid traffic chaos, a park-and-ride service will be set up and use of public transport will be free. Security is also very important: experts who already have experience with major events work on a well-thought-out security concept.

The central festival zone extends across several locations in Osnabrück, including the market square, Hasestrasse and the castle garden. Visitors can look forward to nine themed miles with around 200 stands from clubs and various providers as well as around 100 street food stands that offer a wide range of culinary offerings.

A look into the past

The history of Lower Saxony Day goes back to 1981. Since then, the festival has established itself as a platform to celebrate the country's culture and diversity. The last event in 2022, which took place in Hanover, attracted around 500,000 visitors to enjoy the culture and history of Lower Saxony at the Maschsee. A laser show and an impressive traditional costume parade thrilled the guests, informed Niedersachsen.de.

With all these exciting preparations in Osnabrück, nothing stands in the way of a great celebration. Lower Saxony Day will certainly be an unforgettable experience for visitors this year! Be excited!
